Ace Attorney 6: some additional details

Today, Ace Attorney 6 was showcased during a Famitsu livestream, on NicoNico. It allowed us to get some gameplay footage proper, with additional details. We also got to see the new penalty icons, which are based on the strange Megatama seen in the first official screenshots and artworks for the game.

Ace Attorney 6 - MegatamaMedium Vision is the name of the new system teased when the game was originally announced. It allows medium to see the last memories of the victims: this includes sight, sounds, smells, feelings, and more. Obviously, your job is to find the contradictions between what is shown, and what the court claims is shown.

The gameplay footage showed some rather dynamic camera angles, such as the one seen in the trailer (with Phoenix Wright entering the courtroom). At the beginning, Bokuto (your guide) is found guilty by Leifa Padma Kurain (princess of the Kingdom of Kurain), but Phoenix Wright steps in and decides to defend him.

For some reason, the prosecutor is the one and only Winston Payne, and as you can imagine, he doesn’t really looked please to see Phoenix Wright. That being said, he still look as pleased with himself as ever… at least, at the beginning!

Ace Attorney 6 - PayneDuring the court segments, there is now the Medium Vision parts mentioned above. In the first case, it’s Leifa Padma Kurain who is taking care of those. She channels the memories and the senses of the victim.

Ace Attorney 6 - VisionDuring those segments, you first pick up one of Leifa’s statements, before looking at the water mirror in order to find contradictions in the victim’s memories. When you find one, Leifa may change her statements: you then need to find even more contradictions in order to make the trial progress.

During the Q & A segment with viewers of the stream, the developers didn’t say whether the Kingdom of Kurain was linked to Kurain Village, and whether Maya Fey would make an appearance in the game. They also didn’t say who the voice actors were, which isn’t too surprising: the game will not come out until next year, and it’s pretty likely they haven’t been chosen yet (with the exception of Phoenix Wright and Leifa Padma Kurain).

Finally, here’s various pictures from the stage show, courtesy of 4Gamer.net:

Ace Attorney 6 (3DS) will come out next year in Japan. The European and North American release has already been confirmed.
