amiibo: over 14.7 million units sold worldwide
Yesterday, Nintendo published its financial results for the first quarter of 2015-16, which were much better than last year (when the company actually lost money). They also updated their list of best-sellers, and mentionned that amiibo really contributed to their good sales during the first quarter of the Fiscal Year.
Unfortunately, they didn’t give any sales data for amiibo, but thanks to Bloomberg, we finally have some updated figures. amiibo were launched back in November 2014 (December 2015 in Japan), and since then, they have sold over 14.7 million units worldwide. During the first quarter, over 4.2 million NFC figures were sold worldwide, with an average of 1.4 million per month.
There’s no doubt that the launch of Splatoon, and the popular Inkling figures, really boosted amiibo sales during the first quarter of the Fiscal Year. And in the next few months, amiibo cards will be launched in Europe and North America (the first series is already available in Japan), and they’re bound to boost sales even more (which is great news for Nintendo’s profits… not so much for players’ wallets!).
How many amiibo did you end up purchasing?
