Capcom expects to sell 2m units of a new Monster Hunter title by April 2017
Update
Capcom has confirmed that the new Monster Hunter game mentioned below is not Monster Hunter Stories (as we suspected), but instead a brand new Monster Hunter game. Unfortunately, it’s not clear on which platform it will be released.

Today, Capcom uploaded the slides from its meeting with investors, which followed the presentation of its annual financial results. During that meeting, the company detailed its strategies for the current Fiscal Year (ending March 31st, 2017). It revealed that they were expecting to sell about 2 million units of an unnamed Monster Hunter game.
That game is most likely Monster Hunter Stories, for several reasons:
- it’s the only Monster Hunter title currently announced, and 2 million units look like an ambitious but achievable goal;
- 2 million units seem really low for a new mainline entry, or even a G version of Monster Hunter X.
Of course, it’s possible a new game will be announced and released by the end of the current Fiscal Year, but it’s not something we’re going to hear about in the near future.
Capcom also expects to sell 4 million units and 2 million units of two major titles, but we don’t know which ones, and for which platforms.
Also, Capcom mentions the launch of new titles in popular series in Japan (such as Monster Hunter Stories) and overseas (such as Monster Hunter Generations) as part of its strategy for Fiscal Year 2016-17.
Monster Hunter Stories (3DS) comes out this year in Japan.
Monster Hunter Generations (3DS) comes out this Summer in Europe and North America.
