Dragon Quest VIII: latest batch of screenshots show the first town

In Japan, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is finally available on Nintendo 3DS… via the Nintendo eShop for now! To mark the occasion, Square-Enix has revealed the latest (and most likely last) batch of screenshots for the game, and more precisely the beginning of the adventure.

You start the adventure in an area with a quite a lot of nature (and a cave nearby), that you can explore at will: using the map on the bottom screen allows you to always find your way around, which will be quite handy when you reach more “complex” areas  later in the game. Just be careful of the monsters that appear at night!

Unlike the original version on PlayStation 2, you get the map of the cave from the get go, which makes its exploration much easier. As for the very first town you visit, it’s called Farebury. It may be small, but you will still find several useful facilities there: weapon shop, inn, tavern (where you can get useful information) and more.

Here’s the latest screenshots for Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, which shows the beginning area and town, but also Morrie (which is one of the new playable characters in the Nintendo 3DS version):
