Fear Effect Reinvented: Sushee Games and Forever Entertainment bringing Fear Effect remake to Switch
Fear Effect is a horror action adventure game released on the original PlayStation back in 2000, and has quite the cult-following (despite the series only getting two entries in 2000 and 2001). Fans have been dreaming of a remaster:remake, and it’s finally about to come true on Nintendo Switch, with Fear Effect Reinvented!
Developed by Sushee Games (who are working on an isometric tactical game based on the series), and published by Forever Entertainment, Fear Effect Reinvented will be released some next year. We don’t have much details about the game so far, just the following teaser trailer:
But thanks to an interview published on GamesIndustry, we have a few more details about the game, and how it came to be. Benjamin Anseaum (CEO of Sushee Games) explained that as soon as they announced Fear Effect: Segna, in April 2016, they got lots of messages from fans, requesting a remake of the original games. And in fact, they’re still getting such messages on a regular basis.
Here’s what Benjamin Anseaum had to say about staying close to the original, and meeting fans expectations:
Working on the improved graphics will be the biggest challenge. In the 1999 game, lots of the atmosphere relied on imagination – the low definition textures forced the players to create images in their heads. With today’s high definition, a lot of the work we’ll do will be creating high definition objects and textures, while staying true to the original atmosphere.
We won’t be making a simple remake, we want to stay as close as possible to the original, but important aspects of the game will evolve. Graphics, of course, as you can see in the announcement trailer… we tried to find a very modern, yet respectful artistic direction – and I must say we’re very excited with what we’ve done so far.
Gameplay-wise, Fear Effect Reivented will keep the same camera angles as the original, though controls will be improved, and will be more modern and fluid. That being said, hardcore fan who want as authentic an experience will be able to get it with the original controls!
