[N-Direct] Yo-kai Watch 2: more details, footage, screenshots; demo coming soon
Since it’s already available in Japan, and won’t release before Spring 2017 in Europe, it’s only in the North American Nintendo 3DS Direct presentation that Yo-kai Watch 2 was showcased yesterday.
In this sequel, you get to travel to the past, in order to discover the origins of the Yo-kai Watch. Along the way, you will end up involved in a Yo-kai war between two rivals factions.
Their leaders are:
- Bony Spirits: Arachnus
- Fleshy Souls: Toadal Dude
Gameplay-wise, Yo-kai Watch 2 features the brand new Yo-kai Watch Model Zero, which gives you two new tactics to use (making for more strategic battles).
The first one: you can now poke some enemy Yo-kai when they’re weakened. If you’re fast enough, you can earn a bonus, and even deal some extra damage. The second one: if you fill up the soul meter one of your Yo-kai, and of an adjacent Yo-kai, you can use a powerful M Move.
Since there’s two versions (Fleshy Souls / Bony Spirits), players are encouraged to trade the Yo-kai they cannot get in the one they went with. Nintendo also mentions the first-print bonus, previously revealed:
- Retail version: physical medal, unlocks a new Soultimate move for Jibanyan
- Digital version: Robonyan or Sailornyan (in-game)
Finally, it was announced that the Yo-kai Watch 2 demo would be released in mid-September, most likely on September 15th (usual Nintendo eShop update day).

Finally, here’s the segment from yesterday’s Nintendo 3DS Direct:
Yo-kai Watch 2: Fleshy Spirits / Bony Souls (3DS) comes out on September 30th in North America, October 15th in Australia, and Spring 2017 in Europe.
