Nintendo Switch news (Oct. 24): single screen experience only, more confirmed developers

Today’s Nintendo Switch news: the Nintendo Switch to offer a single screen experience only, but also…

  • more confirmed developers
  • Nicky video interview (preview trailer actor)

Single screen experience

One of the main features of the Wii U, besides off-TV, was the dual-screen experience. Some games even made some really clever use of it, especially indie titles like Affordable Space Adventures. But it looks like Nintendo is dropping that feature with the Nintendo Switch, and actually confirmed it to Polygon on Friday.

Here’s the exact statement from Nintendo:

Nintendo Switch is dedicated to deliver a single-screen experience, on whatever screen you might choose

It looks like despite the second screen, dual-screen gameplay will not be possible. That’s most definitely because the main unit is, unlike the Wii U, the one with the screen. The dock is, in fact, nothing but a dock, used to display an image on the TV screen, charge the main unit, provide power to the whole thing, and allow players to easily and quickly switch to and from portable mode.

More confirmed developers

Over the past few days, several developers/studios confirmed they were Nintendo Switch developers:

  • Shin’en Multimedia (FAST Racing Neo, Art of Balance): they have always been pretty supportive of Nintendo platforms, so it’s no wonder they would be working on games for the Nintendo Switch too!
  • FDG Entertainment (Oceanhorn) will bring two games next year;
  • Zoink! will also bring games to Nintendo’s new console

By the way, if you want to keep track of all the games confirmed for the Nintendo Switch, and the developers/publishers/partners who have confirmed they are certified developers/partners, make sure to check our newly launched page!

Nicky video interview (preview trailer actor)

You’ve probably never heard of that “Nicky” dude (no, he’s not your friend). You might even be wondering why we’re talking of a guy called Nicky in this post. The reason for that is because you’ve all seen him on Thursday, provided you did watch the preview trailer for the Nintendo Switch.

GameXplain actually found one of the actors from the Nintendo Switch preview trailer, and managed to get an interview. If you’re interested in learning more about how the trailer was shot, what holding the console feels like, and more, make sure to check it out:
