Pokémon: details and artworks for the new Zygarde formes

This week-end, some scans from Coro Coro magazine allowed us to discover some new formes for Zygarde, which will be featured in the next anime season, called Pokémon XY and Z.

Today, The Pokémon Company International made an official announcement regarding both the anime series and Zygarde, providing additional details about the new formes and Ash’s Greninja.

  • Zygarde cell: this forme is basically the single Cells that make up Zygarde’s body, and does not possess any will or thoughts on its own. Apparently, they are found scattered all around the Kalos region. They cannot use any move, which is why researchers are reluctant to call them Pokémon.
  • Zygarde Core: part of Zygarde’s brain. It’s self-aware, and can communicate with the other Cells using telepathy. If it detects a change in the local region’s ecosystem, it takes action.
  • Zygarde 10% Forme: when Zygarde Core gathers 10% of all the Cells nerby, it takes this dog-like forme. It can run over 60 mph (100 km/h), and it uses its sharp fangs and incredible speed to defeat enemies.
  • Zygarde 50% Forme: until recently, it was the only known forme of Zygarde. It’s a Legendary Pokémon watching over and maintaining the local ecosystem. As the name implies, it’s a Zygarde Core which has collected 50% of all the Cells.
  • Zygarde Complete Forme: the forme Zygarde takes when 100% of the Cells have been gathered, which only happens if the eco-system is threatened and Zygarde 50% Forme is unable to deal with it. Apparently, it’s even more powerful than both Xerneas and Yveltal.

Finally, we have some details about Greninja, which will take on a new appearance in Pokémon XY and Z (the new season for the anime series). It takes this form when its bond with Ash is raised to the limit. It’s a unique phenomenom which is said to have happened only once, several hundreds of years ago in the Kalos region.

Pokémon XY and Z will start airing on October 29th in Japan, and most likely next year in North America and Europe.
