Pokémon Gold and Silver (3DS Virtual Console) getting a retail release in Europe
A couple of months ago, during the latest Pokémon Direct presentation, it was announced that Pokémon Gold and Silver were getting a re-release on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console (just like Pokémon Red Version / Blue Version / Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition last year). It will be available on September 22nd, worldwide.
And today, Nintendo announced that Pokémon Gold and Silver would get a retail release in Europe, just like the first one got in Japan last year. However, do not expect the games to come on a cartridge or anything: it’s a mere download code you will find inside the box. It doesn’t look like there’s any extras inside, though…
As for the box itself, it’s meant to look like the original GameBoy box, complete with the red Nintendo logo and the Original Nintendo Seal of Quality. There may not be a cartridge inside, those boxes will make for a pretty nice collector’s item… if not for that ugly (but necessary) warning text on the front (if only it was a mere sticker!).
Here’s what the retail boxes for Pokémon Gold and Silver on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console look like:
By the way, the text on the box mentions that the game will require 130 blocks of free space on your SD Card (that’s 16.25MB).
Nothing has been announced for North America yet, but we already know that Japan will get a similar retail release. It’s also possible Nintendo will release Nintendo 3DS bundles (and more specifically the New Nintendo 2DS XL), but nothing has been announced yet.
Pokémon Gold and Silver (3DS – Virtual Console) will be released on September 22nd worldwide. The Upcoming Games page has been updated!
