Pokkén Tournament
Yesterday, a bunch of previews went live for Pokkén Tournament.
Various outlets have also published interviews with Katsuhiro Harada and Masaaki Hoshino. In the one from GameSpot, Masaaki Hoshino explains that a Nintendo 3DS version of the game would be pretty hard to develop: in fact, it’s already a challenge to port the game on the Wii U. Katsuhiro Harada added that it’s all about budget:
“Programmer does not need technology. Programmer needs budget”
In other words, a Nintendo 3DS version of Pokkén Tournament might have happened if a big enough budget had been allocated for it. But even then, there would have been a major downgrade: Hyrule Warriors Legends is proof of that.
In Polygon’s interview, we learn that Bandai-Namco worked very closely with The Pokémon Company and Game Freak when they created Shadow Mewtwo. They had the idea to make a cool, dark-coloured Mewtwo, had a designer create it, and then showed it to The Pokémon Company and Game Freak.
But will Shadow Mewtwo ever become canon? Unfortunately, we don’t know. Pokkén Tournament is a spin-off, so it’s not officially canon. It’s definitely possible The Pokémon Company and Game Freak will decide to use it in a main game one day, but until then, Shadow Mewtwo will remain non-canonical.
Finally, here’s some screenshots from the English version of Pokkén Tournament on Wii U:
Pokkén Tournament (Wii U) comes out on March 18th, worldwide.
Pokémon Red / Green
As announced last week, the Pokémon Red / Green: Super Music Collection will be released on April 27th in Japan. Thanks to Amazon.co.jp (and Serebii for spotting it), we have the artwork that will be used for the cover of the album:
