[Update] The Snack World: new trailer for the project, 3DS game out in July 2017
As initially announced, The Snack World is one of the projects Level-5 showcased today during its Level-5 Vision 2016 conference. First of all, we got a brand new trailer for the project:
Level-5 also confirmed that the game would still be released on Nintendo 3DS and iOS/Android, but not at the same time:
- iOS/Android: April 2017
- Nintendo 3DS: July 2017 (while this is pure speculation on our part, it’s probably safe to assume The Snack World will also be released on the new NX platform. After all, Level-5 did release Time Travellers on Nintendo 3DS, PSP, and PS Vita a few years ago)
Here’s some gameplay footage for the Nintendo 3DS (and mobile) game:
As for the full CG anime series by OLM, it will debut in April 2016 on TV Tokyo, where it will air in a prime time slot (between 6PM to 8PM during the week). But that’s not all: during the Level-5 Vision 2016 conference, it was also announced that The Snack World would also get a manga in CoroCoro magazine (to debut this Winter). And of course, there’s the toys by Takara-Tomy!
All these “dates” are only for Japan, but Level-5 reiterated that they’re planning to launch this cross-media project worldwide. Naturally, details for such a launch will not be revealed any time soon… in fact, it’s quite likely we will not hear anything until after the Japanese launch.
Next, some details! The Snack World takes place in a Hyper Casual Fantasy World, where convenience stores, cafes, vending machines, and smartphones can be found alongside the traditional weapon shops, inns, and other “traditional” buldings/facilities found in RPG. Below, you can see artworks for the French Toaster city, and the King Oyster City.
Here’s some of the characters appearing in the game:
- Chap
- Mayone
- Pepperon
- Gobu-san
- Butako
- Meroora
- King
- Cinderella
- Geniez
- Carbonaara
- Pinocchio
And here’s some of the monsters:
- Buttari
- Scorpion
- Yeti
- Mermaid
The battle system is in real-time, with seemingly simple controls. By scanning the NFC toys, you unlock quests in-game where you can get the corresponding item/piece of equipment. There’s various brands, each with their own specificities:
- Britannia Enchant: pretty high-class
- Peffany: a girly brand
- Clanarine: for classy (and wealthy) adventurers
- Fairy Electronics: for fans of high-tech equipment
