Today, Splatoon celebrates its very first Anniversary. Indeed, it’s exactly one year ago that the game came out in Japan, on May 28th (one day before Europe and North America). What was at first a rather intriguing (and often misunderstood) project from Nintendo ended up one of the most successful new IP of the generation, with over 4 million units sold worldwide.
To celebrate this first Anniversary, the Squid Research Lab shared the following illustration:
But that’s not all… Nintendo also announced a second Splatoon Premium Pack for the Wii U. It will be released on July 7th in Japan (on the same day as the new amiibo), will cost 39 960 Yen, and will include the following:
- contents of the Wii U Premium Pack
- Splatoon (pre-loaded)
- Marie & Callie amiibo

Last year, the Splatoon Premium Pack was extremely popular, and sold out even before the end of the holiday period. There’s no doubt that this bundle will be equally popular, and will sell out pretty quickly (which explains why it remains quite pricy: Nintendo knows pretty well it will sell). Unfortunately, we don’t know if Nintendo plans to release this bundle in Europe and North America in the upcoming months.
