Splatune (Splatoon OST CD) sold over 24 000 units on Day One

SplatuneUnlike other publishers, Nintendo doesn’t always release the official soundtrack album for their games, and generally, only the biggest of releases get one (often via Club Nintendo only). So when the company does release one, it’s always a big deal for fans, and especially collectors (who are not afraid to go buy it later for several time its original price on eBay).

Good news for fans of Splatoon: this game did get a soundtrack release in Japan… in fact, the album came out today! And it looks like it’s off to a great start: according to the Daily Oricon charts, Splatune has sold 24 355 units during its first day on the market! It’s the second best-selling album in Japan, just behind Japonism (from Arashi, an extremely popular idol group).

It will be interesting to see how much Splatune will sell in the upcoming days, and how long it will manage to stay in the Oricon daily chart. One thing’s for sure: Splatoon is enjoying some noticeable popularity in Japan, with over 700 000 copies sold at retail (a remarkable feat for a brand new IP on Wii U), many goodies (plushies, keyrings, etc.), and even an official tournament.
